Review of Beauty and the Beast (2017) by Rebekah R — 21 Apr 2017
For the record, I truly adore the orignal animated Disney classic. I was looking forward to what the live action remake had in store, since they had proven to be done well with the recent Cinderella and The Jungle Book.
Visually the movie is wonderful to watch, but there seems to lie it's strength. The cast don't come across very strongly this time, and Emma Watson is indeed a beauty, but she lacks the passion like the character in the story.
Other characters like Maurice the father get more of a backstory as well, but seems to only distract from the main ones. The only interesting fresh take on the characters is Luke Evans and Josh Gad as Gaston and Lefou.
It could have been better, but I suppose I'll enjoy it for what it is.
