Review of Beauty and the Beast (2017) by Tv_Moviesnob — 20 Jun 2017
I can't even put into words how disappointed I was about this movie, I knew it was going to be disappointed when I first seen the previews the CGI was jaw dropping and I don't mean that in a good way and the fact that Emma Watson was cast to play the lovely Belle was laughable but still I had hope because Beauty and the Beast is by far my favorite Disney Movie, it's in my top 5. The main issue I had with this film aside from the casting was the story tale itself. Disney for some reason decided to combined the old Folklore with their Disney version of how the beast became the beast and it truly made no sense because they left out key details in both. Some Backstory: In the old Folklore of Beauty and the Beast, Belle's father was a merchant who had 3 sons and 3 daughters the youngest being Belle, Belle was loved by her brothers and her father but her two sisters despised her. One day the merchant asked his girls what they wanted him to bring back the two sisters said money and jewelry but Belle only requested a single Rose. Which brings us to how the father met the beast just like in the movie the beast kept himself hidden and he fed the father and let him relax in his chair and rest and as the father was leaving he noticed the rose garden remembered Belle's request and picked off a rose which enraged the beast and so he showed himself and basically told the father that he was taking advantage of his kindness which is why he became the beasts prisoner but he did allow him to go home to say goodbye to his family which brings us to how Belle decided to trade places with her father which imprisoned him in the place the brothers and the fathers profusely rejected the idea and were actually going to slay the beast but Belle wouldn't allow them to do that and instead took her fathers place which made the brothers and father sad but the sisters were thrilled. The beast and Belle got along quite fine and developed trust and love for each other and he.
Actually allowed her to go back home to see her family as long as she wasn't gone more than 3 days, well leave it to the bitter sisters to put a stop to this because they wanted Belle dead/ locked away with the beast so they convinced Belle to stay longer hoping that this would set the beast off it took a bit of persuading and Belle stayed for a week and the beast grew weak and Belle could sense that something was wrong so she rushed back to the beast who was basically dying and she was crying over him and professing her love, she kisses him and the beast turns into a prince they get married the brothers and father rejoice and the evil bitter sisters well Belle turns them into the stone - The End.
That's how the Folklore goes so as you can see aside from a few key parts Disney took bits and pieces and meshed it up with the animated tale and they added a whole new element which was Belle's mother and the magic book that takes them to any point and time in the world which was just stupid and unnecessary, we could all assume that Belle's mother was dead we didn't need to know what she died of anyone could've guessed small pox or even chlamydia I mean hello they didn't have medicine people were dying from the common cold for Christ sake it was just stupid and nobody cares! This live action remake was absolutely dreadful and who was the ugly dude that played the part of Gaston? What about him was rugged or handsome he looked like a prissy prep school boy if you ask me! Even the enchanted castle and characters were lackluster in this remake it was all around disappointing and they added new songs that nobody knew who does that?! So in the end I'm sure people will watch but as a true fan of beauty and the beast both folklore and animation this live action remake was a let down in a big way.
