Review of Beauty and the Beast (1991) by Kevin K — 23 Jun 2012
It takes a lot for me to give a movie 5 stars, it takes great pacing, a rousing story, and tip top performances all around. This is one of those rare movies that not only deliver on all of those things, it also gives us an unforgettable experience that you and the kids will not soon forget. The story is a simple but powerful one, it teaches us that true beauty lies within.
The animation is just simply breathtaking to this day, the way the animators do these characters are just amazing. They look and FEEL like whenever they feel sad,happy,confused..it's just unbelievable The musical numbers are some of the best since West Side Story, "Be Our Guest" steals the show but the others are pretty good.
This film breaks the tradition of the prototypical Disney romance story by making the 2 main characters (Belle and The Beast) not stand each other at first, and that is just brilliant. But we all know that eventually they get together, but not in the most ideal of situations in one of the most bittersweet scene of the past 20 years. It has a little bit of everything; adventure, romance, comedy, suspense, and some horror in there. It's easy to pop in and watch, timed in under 90 minutes. This is truly a timeless classic!
