Review of Beauty and the Beast (1991) by Matthew D — 01 Feb 2013
"NO ONE TAKES CHEAP SHOTS LIKE GASTON!" Movie Matt here with Beauty & The Beast and before anyone asks, No, I'm not going to do the entire review as Gaston. Again with Snow White, no story recap because everyone should know the story.
I'd say this is one of my favorite films in the single-narrative department of Disney. This is one of Disney's more darker films & It shows in the visuals in the castle scenes where most of the film takes place & also, they are really clever for not telling us how long she was in the castle.
Another thing I like is the visuals of the film showing the representations of the characters: Beast is dark & he's only seen in darkness until the dungeon bit. Belle is light & is introduced outside & Gaston is light but later becomes dark as the film goes on.
When Belle first enters the castle, the interior of the castle becomes light in complete contrast to the dark interior when Maurice enters it. Is It good, Yes but has some flaws. Also, opening & closing the film on stained-glass windows was genius.
Well, there's my two cents & I'd say: See It but let's face it, you already have. I know I did.
