Generally Disney movies are written of as fun movies for little kids, and not much more. Watching them a few years later shows that some are much better than you thought. Most of the 90's Disney movies were actually pretty great, and Beauty and the Beast is no exception.

In fact, it's a great example of this. This was the first animated film to be nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars, and it's well deserved. This movie successfully blends comedy, drama, and Broadway-style musical numbers into a very solid movie.

It has flaws, but it also has a good cast and the Disney's brand of lifelike and fluid animation. That's it for the movie itself, now onto the 3D. After the success of The Lion King 3D, Beauty and the Beast 3D was announced.

The 3D here is boring, with little depth added. One thing good about it though, is how it never makes the film hard to see in dark scenes. This is a problem with most 3D films, and this conversion avoids it.

This means the 3D won't hamper your enjoyment of the movie, but isn't worth paying for. Few 3D films really are paying for, and this sure isn't one of them. Overall, the 3D is a waste, but the film is still very good.

I recommend seeing it on the big screen, but in 2D.
