Review of Beauty and the Beast (1991) by Michael P — 10 Jul 2013
I'll be honest I probably did see this when I was young but the first time I remember watching it was about a year ago. This is probably a bit TOO musical & enchanted for me to go head-over-heels about, BUT if you ignore that aspect it's a really well made film.
The animation's gorgeous, it tells the story well, I'd say nearly all aspects are covered pretty well. There are some characters I really adore in this. Beast is a bit of an arse at first but he's pretty funny, Belle is one of the better Disney female leading characters, she's probably the best out of the early Disney renaissance.
The side characters are very enjoyable, especially Cogsworth and Lumiere. A fair amount of people regard this as the best film Disney has made but I'm reluctant to go that far. In some aspects, maybe but overall I'd be looking elsewhere for the best Disney film.
