Review of Beauty and the Beast (1991) by Jordan T — 25 Apr 2014
To me, my favorite Disney film is The Lion King. If it wasn't, Beauty and the Beast would, by no competition, take it's place. In fact, the two films would be equal as #1 for me if it wasn't for my enormous fan base and childhood memories with Lion King.
This film, is perfect. The story is a fairy tale of two great and well-written characters who, at first, can't stand each other, but eventually fall in love. The thing of it is, is that they never truly show how long Belle and the Beast are together for their friendship to form.
It could've even been for months for all we know. The side characters are also great. Lumiere, Cogsworth, Mrs. Potts, etc are genuinely good people with kindness and hospitality. Lumiere and Cogsworth are also great comic reliefs.
The villain, Gaston, practically starts out in the film as the town hero. But when he doesn't get his way with Belle, like he's used to be having, he begins to go to desperate measures, leading to doing evil things.
The songs are all fantastic, as well as the background score. And do I even need to say how beautiful the animation is? Seriously, this is a true classic. I'd like to go on with more praises about it, but let's face it: I'll just be repeating what everybody else has to say about it.
