Review of Beauty and the Beast (1991) by Evangelos C — 05 Jul 2016
This is my most favorite Walt Disney Animation Studios film. Everything is pretty much perfect. The characters, the romance, the music. It's basically my Disney equivalent of How To Train Your Dragon.
Belle is my favorite Disney Princess. She's smart, independent, headstrong, kind and gentle. She's a great role model. The Beast is also great. I love his design. Even though he's mean in the beginning, he's never really unlikable.
You're really happy when he becomes nice. The side characters are also wonderful, especially cute little Chip. The writing in this film is very good. It's never revealed how long Belle and Beast are together, so you can draw your own conclusions.
Gaston is one of the more realistic Disney villains, one who doesn't start off evil, but become that over time. The film has great animation, comedy, characters, it's just wonderful. The film does have some questionable moments, like how did Philippe know where Maurice was or did anyone notice Belle's absence, and the look of the human version of the Beast can kind of throw you off.
But those are just nitpicks. Beauty and the Beast is the pure Disney fairytale done to the absolute best. It's my favorite from the studio, and no other will ever take it's place.
