Review of Beauty and the Beast (1991) by Jacob B — 28 Feb 2017
In honour of the live-action remake with Emma Watson coming out, I figured this was a perfect time to watch and review the 1991 cartoon. Beauty and the Beast is an enjoyable movie with delightful animation, a sweet story and fun songs such as "Be Our Guest", "Gaston" and the lovely song which shares the same name as the movie's title.
This film resulted in the Disney Renaissance finally taking off after going slightly off-road with The Rescuers Down Under. The film is a true classic which teaches kids that true beauty lies within and we shouldn't judge a person from how they look on the outside.
A magical experience. After all, you know it's a sign that the movie's THAT good when it became the first ever animated film in history to be nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Picture.
Shame it lost to Silence of the Lambs. Ah,well maybe one day a cartoon will actually win that Oscar rather than just your typical Academy Award for Best Animated Feature (NOTE: This movie came out before the introduction of this recently mentioned Oscar).
