Review of Beautiful Thing (1996) by Matt S — 10 Apr 2010
Jonathan Harvey's 1993 play was adapted into this wonderful little film in 1996. It tells the story of two teenage boys living next to each other in a council estate apartment building in South London. At first barely even speaking to each other, they develop a friendship that slowly becomes a romance. One of the best gay-themed flicks of the nineties featuring a wall-to-wall soundtrack of Mama Cass and The Mamas And Papas.
One of the most genuine "coming out" stories I've ever seen.
