Review of Beautiful Lies (2010) by Paul C — 19 Aug 2011
Not as much fun as Priceless and certainly no Amelie, but there is no doubt in my mind that the French make the best romantic comedies these days. They have the right mix of cynicism and humour to make you care about the characters - GB and US just don't know how to make romantic comedies anymore without piling on the too much corniness or over-sentimentality.
Audrey Tautou was great in this, as usual - but then I've been a fan since Amelie (my fave film of all time). The character wasn't as nice as some of the characters that she has played and her mother and work colleagues were a nice mix of different personalities.
Well-worth checking out.
