Review of Beautiful Kate (2009) by Kerron W — 14 Aug 2009
Honest, realistic portrayal of a family in turmoil. Told in the present day and through flashbacks we visit the Kendall family. Son Ned (Ben Mendelsohn) returns home after 20 years away to visit his dying father (Bryan Brown) and old wounds are opened from the past.
Grim, at times devastating, it packs a big emotional punch. Mendelsohn shines, perhaps his best work. Script had a few small holes in it, but otherwise this is another highmark in a great year for Australian film.
