Review of Beautiful Girls (1996) by Joe E — 24 Sep 2007
It's by no means a perfect film, parts are over acted, there are scenes that serve no purpose, yet it's one of my favorites. The spark between Natalie Portman and Timothy Hutton rings true, and while it could seem creepy, it instead comes across as honest.
It is striking that a man can return home for a 10 year reunion and find that a 13 year old child is more mature than his peers. It takes the wisdom of this child to shake Hutton's character out of his wishy-washiness, and for that we are thankful.
