Review of Beautiful Girls (1996) by Alex M — 13 Feb 2008
One of my favorites, the first "feel good" movie I ever saw and has since stuck with me. The title is somewhat misleading, the story is really about Hutton's character coming back to his hometown for his High School reunion.
Being the only person that left the small town, everything is the same way he left it. His friends are all very basic, "going nowhere" with their lives characters who deal with small town drama.
Whats really captivating about this flick is the bond of friendship the men still have after many years of not seeing Hutton. The other aspect is the friendship (bordering on platonic love) that Hutton makes with Portman (13 years old at this time).
She describes herself as an "old soul" and thats the best way I would put it too. I highly recommend this to anyone that wants to remember what friendship is really like.
