Review of Beautiful Girls (1996) by Steve W — 12 Aug 2008
This has to be on of my favourite all time movies. Its one of the most intelligent,heart-warming and thoughtful films ive ever seen. The premise is a high school reunion with Timothy Hutton flying in to see his school friends after about 10 years.
They've all got their problems and life is being lived and the film tells of their first and early(if ya like) mid-life crisis. Theres some beautiful dialogue and one of my favourite scenes in any movie when Natalie Portman is skating round Hutton and after she tells him he should wait for her says 'We can walk through this world together'.
Some sublime moments in this film, and at times its so poignantly funny you dont know whether to laugh or cry. The ultimate message seems to be that its the people who stick by us in life are the ones who really matter.
Great music too.
