3.5 means good.

I saw it 10 years ago (1998), because friends wanted to see it. To my surprise, I thought it was quite smart, and beautiful. I remember many visuals but can't be sure if this as good as it seemed. Not the best, but good. Here are the highlights from several customer reviews on Flixster:

---.

"one of the most intelligent,heart-warming and thoughtful films ive ever seen. The premise is a high school reunion with Timothy Hutton flying in to see his school friends after about 10 years. They've all got their problems and the film tells of their first and early mid-life crises. There's some beautiful dialogue and one of my favourite scenes in any movie when Natalie Portman is skating round Hutton and after she tells him he should wait for her she says 'We can walk through this world together'. Some sublime moments in this film, and at times its so poignantly funny you dont know whether to laugh or cry. the people who stick by us in life are the ones who really matter. Great music too.

---.

The cover seen here is misleadingly trite. In actuality, this movie is smart, sincere and surprisingly poignant.

---.

sweet. a chick flick but from a guys perspective. i.e. drinking beer and having fights = win.

---.

Timothy Hutton and Natalie Portman's relationship makes the movie although Michael Rapaport makes me laugh as his usual dickhead charactor.

---.

A man having a midlife crisis, going back to his small home town to search for answers within himself.
