Review of Beautiful Girls (1996) by Joe H — 17 Jan 2010
A wonderful, wonderful movie about friendship, love, growing up, settling down and letting go. Started watching it mainly due to a curiosity about the interesting cast. Any movie with a cast of Uma Thurman, Timothy Hutton, Matt Dillon, Natalie Portman and a host of other good actors can't be bad.
It's a bit old, but not dated, and people growing up in small towns can easily relate to the scenarios. Especially the story of Hutton and Portman is very poignant. It makes you ask how a wonderful actor like Hutton lost his way and also shows the early promises of Portman.
Beautifully acted movie from a time when more time was spent on the script and performance to make it a work of art rather than in marketing of movie as a consumer product. Highly recommended.
