Review of Beautiful Darling (2010) by Marilee A — 09 Jun 2011
A low budget documentary about Warhol "goddess", Candy Darling. Her lonely childhood and rise to stardom are narrated by her diary (read by Chloe Sevigny) and multiple interviews with friends ranging from Julie Newmar to John Waters.
Candy lived a short life and never reached the Hollywood status she obsessed over since childhood. For that reason the film drags, and at times uneventful things are treated as eventful. The movie definitly shows a heartbreaking depiction of a lonely and confused girl who just wanted to be accepted, and though difficult, accomplished some pretty impressive things for the time period.
And that makes Beautiful Darling worth watching in my book.
