Review of Beautiful Creatures (2013) by Matt W — 08 Jan 2014
Campy, over the top and not Twilight.
The cast is what sells this fantasy romance. Emma Thompson. Jeremy Irons. And the rest.
This isn't Twilight first and foremost, and there is no longing or staring here. There is definitely something tongue-in-cheek here, and the main two leads are likeable.
The film is a little all over the place in some points, with the spells seeming a little confusing and badly thought out on the screen. The film as whole is campy and a little hokey, and I am not completely sure if they were in on the joke.
Sometimes it was quite clear that it was supposed to be funny, while in other moments it was just a little silly.
There's nothing truly great or bad about it. It's just Beautiful Creatures.
