Review of Beautiful Creatures (2013) by Tyler R — 26 Jan 2014
There seems to be a fantastically bad string of young adult novels trying hard to be the next Hunger Games. Trying to kick start a multi-million dollar franchise is something Warner Brothers was clearly hoping for with Beautiful Creatures, also trying to capitalize on a Valentine's Day 2013 release.
However, the release date could've been any time of the year, because this film was doomed from the get go. The film follows a family of witches as the youngest prepares for an event that will decide if she'll be good or evil.
There really isn't much to say about this film without it sounding like a complete bash fest. The writing, the acting, and near everything else is just rough to sit through. I know it's harsh to say, but this was just painfully cheesy, especially the horrible southern accents.
As someone who lives in the south, I can't stand it when actors go overboard with the accent. And no offense to the excellent Jeremy Irons, but what was he thinking using that accent? Overall, this just seemed like another botched attempt for a studio to have their Hunger Games.
