Review of Beautiful Creatures (2013) by Chris B — 23 Jul 2013
Beautiful Creatures is a disappointing film on almost all fronts, but there are a few shining pieces that are worth mentioning. Most people will have heard and seen this exact story thousands of times over, only this time it is set in the South of the United States so they talk differently.
This can be a little over the top at times, with some people having accents and others not. The acting is likewise hit and miss. The main characters perform well enough, and Jeremy Irons is as solid as ever.
It is Emmy Rossum who steals the show as a seductive siren though. Unfortunately, the main couple have absolutely no chemistry, so the love story really falls through. The special effects are laughably bad, but not quite as horrible as the ending of this movie.
It is predictable, cheesy and really destroyed all of the drama that led up to the conclusion. Do not watch this unless you are tired of your Twilight movie collection.
