Review of Beautiful Boy (2018) by Dana D — 30 Oct 2018
Beautiful Boy captures the life of a boy struggling with addiction and the extremely bumpy road to recovery, as his father does everything he can to help him. I am absolutely amazed by the acting done by Timothée Chalamet and Steve Carell. So many people, whether they're the ones dealing with addiction directly or the ones watching a family member do so, experience the same clamor of emotions: guilt, shame, anger, fear. What feels unmanageable on an individual level is suddenly much easier to grasp when you realize others are going through the exact same thing.
I could go on forever describing how well this movie counteracts the assumptions of addiction and shows audiences what this disease looks like, but I recommend anyone to see it for themselves. It is a phenomenal film.
