Review of Beatriz at Dinner (2017) by Suleman F — 23 Jun 2017
All of the little problems that people had with this movie are exactly why I love it. The perceived "heavy handedness" of the message plays a lot more naturally than you might think, and the truth is that as the majority of audiences that see this will likely be white, they need some things spelled out, no matter how "woke" they think they are.
If you think anything about this movie is cliche or too loud, think about who the president is, and how much of a problem racial tension still is, and how much environmental destruction still occurs.
Also Salma Hayek and John Lithgow turn in great performances.
