Review of Beatriz at Dinner (2017) by Steve M — 27 Jun 2017
This is a thought provoking movie. I found myself talking about it long after it had ended. The performances of all the players are compelling, deeply disturbing and conflicted. No one is left unscathed or comes off as completely saintly though Beatriz has, from the onset, a quiet stealth like pace, studying her fellow dinner party attendees as she sees the ugliness not much deeper than below the surface.
If the intent was to hold up a mirror to a majority of society and the selfishness and trivial pursuits that people deem as success this film scores. Hayek gives a multi-layered character life and her statements will echo with you after the credits roll.
