Review of Beatriz at Dinner (2017) by Ricky W — 22 Oct 2017
Beatriz at Dinner: Salma Hayek stars in this subtle indy drama as Beatriz, a modest, kind-hearted wellness therapist who, through unforeseen circumstances, ends up at a wealthy client's dinner party in Orange County, CA.
There, sparks fly when Beatriz meets Doug, a callous, self-absorbed property developer, played by John Lithgow. The story?s social commentary, about the harshness of life for empathetic people, is an impactful one, and Hayek?s understated performance is exceptional, buoyed by a supporting cast (Connie Britton, Chloë Sevigny) that is spot on.
