Review of Beat Street (1984) by Bill S — 22 Mar 2015
Surprisingly endearing 80s hip hop/breakdance film. Okay, the film isn't really a breakdance film, but I did get excited about that part. The film is more a time capsule of the early days of hip hop culture.
Rae Dawn Chong is the only actor I was familiar with, but there are a number of recognizable musicians who perform in the film. The film tells the story of a group of up and comers looking for their breakout opportunities.
It's nothing brilliant, but it's entrtaingin and features a likable cast of characters, along with a nostalgic 80s soundtrack that's worth checking out.
