To live, and die in Africa. The cost of fighting these unspeakable wars, when all children like Agu want is to live in peace. We get to see what happens to him as he descends deeper into the brutality at the hands of the rebel army he's apart of.
Beasts of No Nation is a war movie, with a really sharp edge to it. Remember when everyone was mad about KONY 2012? Yeah, that whole movement sounds like a total farce today. But this film, to me, gives the cause a face.
This is what it was about. The violence that continues in Africa, by rebel armies, is unfathomable. In this movie, we see it's evil personified by Idris Elba, who gives the best performance of his career yet as the Commandant.
He's just a monster.
