Review of Beasts of No Nation (2015) by Ben T — 16 Oct 2015

Beasts of no Nation is netflix's first movie and a movie I was very hyped for. The trailers for this movie were great and it had been getting a lot of praise so I watched it and I have to say Beasts of no Nation is amazing.

This film is one of the most powerful, thought provoking and beautiful movie. This film is lead by the two main actors. Idris Elba is amazing in this movie as the Commandant, he's both likeable and unlikeable at the same time.

However he is outshines, which is saying a lot as Idris Elba is an amazing actor, by the little kid Abraham Attah. This kid is one of the best child actors I've ever seen, in fact I think he is the best child actor in a movie.

He gives an amazing peformance and if the academy awards have any justice this kid will be given an Oscar nomination. He is truly outstanding as Agu. The child who plays Agu's friend Stryker is also amazing.

This film is amazingly directed by Cary Joji Fukunga, who directed the outstanding first season of True Detective starring Matthew McCounaghey, Woody Harrelson and Michelle Monaghan. That first season was amazingly directed and so is this movie.

I can't wait to see what he directs next and I would love it if he returned to True Detective to save it after the second season but that's a different topic. The cinematography in this movie I also amazing, just like in True Detective there are uninterrupted shots, two amazing long takes that make the scene better.

The music is also great with some amazing music that make the scenes even more powerful or tense. One of the most suprisingly things about tho movie is how funny the first twenty or so minutes are. There are some very funny scenes with Agu and his family, then the milita come in and this films time changes which luckily isn't very jarring.

Speaking of which this film is extremely powerful. The stuff that happens at the start of the film with Agu's family is very powerful stuff. There are scenes in this movie that had me close to tears.

This film is also very harrowing, while a lot of the violence is off screen this film is still very disturbing. There is a scene where Agu and other child soldiers raid a building and it's so disturbing and made me gasp, it was so difficult to watch but I couldn't help but watch.

I don't really have any problems with this film it's just so good, it had a brilliant ending and is just so brilliant I hope loads of people see it and it gets a lot of Oscar recognition. This is an amazing film and my favourite movie of 2015 so far.
