Review of Beasts of No Nation (2015) by Kendal K — 29 Oct 2015
I thought Beasts of No Nation was good, but I also felt I had already seen this movie a couple of times already. I guess the "child soldier" genre is much like the "political prisoner in jail" genre for me - you've seen one or two, you've seen 'em all.
I suppose that's very jaded of me, and Beasts of No Nation is very well made and all. Idris Elba is great as always and the main boy was good, too. I just didn't think the movie built to much.
For me its my least favorite Cary Fukunaga movie so far, as I loved Jane Eyre and really liked Sin Nombre (and of course, the 1st season of True Detective was great). I wish we had gotten more perspective on Elba's character.
