Review of Beastly (2011) by Qui J — 20 Sep 2011
First off, I was dying for this to come to Australian cinemas (I had only read that it was a horror take on the beauty and the beast story), and when it wasn't coming to cinemas I was utterly shattered. I am so glad that it didn't. What a waste of time and money it would've been. First off, it is NOT a horror film like everywhere has been marketing it. It's dull, lacks substance and point, with the moral being something out of playschool (it's the inside that counts). It was predictable and boring.
The plot is a modern take on Beauty & The Beast, and targeted at teenagers. Do they think casting Vanessa Hudgens makes a film good?. The plot was extremely thin and boring and I could not honestly wait for it to be over.
The acting was horrible. Vanessa Hudgens is HORRIBLE. She seems to play the same innocent sweet girl in everything (except Sucker Punch which was actually good and she did alright in). Alex Pettyfer was no better.
Overall Beastly will only be enjoyed by die-hard fans of the two lead actors. My rating is 1/5.
