Review of Baywatch (2017) by Frederick H — 10 Sep 2017
Has about the same amount of appeal as the show (for the same reasons), but could have been a lot better had it bothered trying. The cast are all appealing and have a lot of chemistry (I came for Johnson and Daddario, but left an equally big fan of Rohrbach and Hadera) but the story (while necessarily and enjoyably far-fetched) takes too many logical leaps.
Most of the humour is dumb, lowbrow stuff that gets old pretty quickly. I don't mind a bit of that, but when it's the primary source of humour it just gets obnoxious after a while. It doesn't really mesh with the more earnest elements either.
The cameos by David Hasselhoff and Pamela Anderson are forced, and the fact their characters have the names of their characters from the show, who are played in the movie by Johnson and Rohrbach, is kind of dumb.
..so it fits in with everything else, I suppose.
