Review of Baywatch (2017) by Pixelpiece X — 10 Feb 2018
While this movie is extremely shallow in most ways, I found this to be way funnier than I expected it to be. It's a turn-off-your-brain type movie which wanted only to entertain, and I found it does so in most of the ways that matter. All the actors did a really good job bringing this cheesy idea to the screen, with a well balanced character roster, the story was just strong enough to support the comedy, and the film wasn't weighed down with overly complicated exposition or character development.
While the jokes are pretty repetitive in their content (lots of jokes related to private parts, ocean references etc), I found them fitting for the tone and the movie in general. I'd be interested in seeing a sequel, but wouldn't want it as a full blown franchise, as I don't think there's enough depth there to warrant it.
Efron and Johnson played off each other really well, and Johnson in particular did a really great job making his character real. Props to him for keeping a straight face while delivering his jokes.
