Review of Battlestar Galactica: Razor (2007) by Michelangelo S — 21 Jan 2008
Brutal, violent character study of "personality-implosions." A jarring twist on "Schindler's List" from the perspective that instead of the Bad Guy "NAZIs" committing atrocities, it is the so-called GOOD GUY "Colonial Commanders" commiting the crimes against humanity.
This is an epic tragedy and character drama on the failed, brutal commandership of the Battlestar Pegasus led by Admiral HELENA CAIN (Michelle Forbes) as seen through the eyes of her talented, very impressionable protege Lt.
(then Capt., then Major) KENDRA SHAW (Stephanie Jacobsen - my new favorite young actress. You grieve for both these women's lives, and the brutal tragic end to both their lives. And that is perhaps the hard reflection that the regular members of the crew have to deal with as they go into the last scene.
What is also fascinating about this film is that the men really, truly take a back seat to these very strong female leading roles. It is the WOMEN who take "ownership" of this movie from a horrific post-apocalyptic 'Pearl Harbor' event of the future throughout the genocide of their race by the militant Cylons, I own the DVD and can't stop watching particularly critical scenes over and over again.
