People with anything less than an immense fascination in the history of cinema will hate this with a passion; its purpose in the present day is really to educate rather than entertain. From a film-making point of view it remains an important lesson in how we got to where we are now, and after all it did give the world the famous Odessa Steps sequence, paid homage to in Brian De Palma's 'The Untouchables'.
