Review of Battleship Potemkin (1925) by Gabriel C — 28 Sep 2007

A pioneer in every sense, this film has mostly stood the test of time. Its technical achievements are duly lauded, because each shot is so perfectly elegant that it could very well have been made last year.

However, the same cannot be said about the other aspects. The acting, pacing, and some editing are very dated. The staircase scene is shocking, but the close-ups of that woman's face were overkill.

All in all, an important part of film history, but mostly propaganda.
