Review of Battleship Potemkin (1925) by Lyndon Joel E — 26 Dec 2008
I had to watch this movie for school and I ended up really enjoying it. The film was surprisingly short but heartstopping, suspenseful and powerful in every moment. Conveying emotion in a short time is something really hard to do, and Eisenstein certainly knew what he was doing. The film had no dialogue (subtitles don't count), but it hit hard with aid of an amazing score and a work of art in every single shot. Eisenstein was a genius!
I am very anti-communist, but despite this I loved this film. Although I have my beliefs, there's no denying that the czar of the Russian empire was horrible. This film was about the uprising on the ship which was caused by years and years of hardship that people had to face because of the czar. I think both sides can agree on that.
