Review of Battleship Potemkin (1925) by Alison O — 13 Apr 2012
What began as a protest about the serving of rotten meat aboard a Russian warship ended in a massacre on The Odessa Steps, a classic sequence that has been homaged in subsequent films such as The Untouchables, Bonnie and Clyde and The Godfather.
For this reason and more, this has to be counted as one of the greatest films of all-time. Such was the belief in its power to incite revolutionary fervour it was banned in the UK until 1954.
