Review of Battleship Potemkin (1925) by Matt M — 20 Jan 2013
A film of inestimable value. Eisenstein, known as the father of the montage. From the orchestration used in the analogue editing techniques, to the artistry of the photography and the use of a mass of people as central character rather than building a story around two characters, this legendary film was and still is to this day one of the most influential works ever made.
The Battleship Potemkin is one of the finest films Soviet cinema ever produced and still to this day as spectacular as it was at the time of its release, with scenes like the famous Odessa massacre one still very renowned and often even referenced by other filmmakers as one of the most gripping and intense ever filmed.
