Review of Battleship Potemkin (1925) by John K — 25 Feb 2013
It's hard to properly rate an 80-year-old silent propaganda film for the Russian Revolution when I am an American citizen in 2013. How can I saw this is or isn't as powerful as it is or isn't? I get what is conveyed, but the film goes from brilliant to melodrama to overdone to perfect.
The Odessa Steps are this film's real contribution to cinema, and they are likely the only reason most people will view this film.
