Maybe some time in the future I'll be a real film nerd and judge films upon their editing and directing and technical and artistical value. For now, I like to be entertained and watch a good story or some nice characters with some neat visuals and so on.

Battleship Potemkin doesn't offer very much of this. Although it's somehow amusing to see all the overacting and the exaggerated stereotypes the communist proganda uses and yes, it's technically masterful especially considering its age (nothing less than I expected), after all, it's just propaganda. Against the imperial regime, the high society and the church.

It's influential, costumes, sets and the ships look quite nice and authentic and the cinematography and the editing is revolutionary (pun intented) but for a more or less casual viewer it's not very interesting - that doesn't mean it's a bad film but not one of the best.

PS: The staircase scene is great indeed.

PPS: The film shows why films usually have protagonists - not having one is a bit odd for today's standards.
