Review of Battleground (1949) by Sam G — 25 May 2015
This movie was done so well in so many ways. While much of the film was filmed on movie sets, they got the look better than so many live-action war films. The guys look and act like they are freezing half to death--exactly like the real soldiers did at Bastogne.
Also, while the movie lacks many first-tier stars, it is chock full of the best character actors MGM could assemble. The direction, sets, outfits and men all worked together to create a labor of love and highly watchable film.
While war flicks are NOT everyone's cup of tea (and I certainly don't like a steady dose of them), this film is well-worth seeing--particularly by kids and teens today who should be taught about the individual sacrifices of this war.
