Review of Battlefield Earth (2000) by Noah F — 21 May 2013
Terrible? Sure is. Yet, I've been around the block, and this is certainly not even close to the worst film of all time. The plot is inane, the cinematography annoying and a ton of poor decisions made in the editing department.
However, I found the human characters likable at the most when they aren't completely superfluous and you have to get a chuckle out of Travolta's performance. Under the muck of the ridiculous dialogue there are a few interesting thematic choices that may have come to a more suitable climax had there been proper direction.
Really, in the end, we have a very sub-par sci-fi flick that you can certainly laugh at and poke fun (and holes) until it's dead in the water, but I've seen too many films to honestly call this the worst of them all, or even in the top ten.
