Review of Battlefield Earth (2000) by Andrew R — 07 Nov 2013
The visionary science-fiction classic Battlefield Earth: A Saga of the Year 3000 is a thrilling epic from prolific novelist L. Ron Hubbard. In the year 3000 Earth has been conquered by a race of aliens called Psychlos who are strip mining the planet for its resources, but when they try to replace their workforce with humans, the humans rebel and attempt to take back the planet.
John Travolta, Forest Whitaker, and Barry Pepper lead the cast and give solid performances; Travolta in particular is especially charismatic as an over-the-top villain. However, the special effects are pretty bad, as the CGI and green screen effects are quite noticeable.
While there are some glaring script and production problems, Battlefield Earth: A Saga of the Year 3000 is a fun and entertaining sci-fi adventure.
