Review of Battlefield Earth (2000) by Bradley F — 30 May 2014
Battlefield Earth is one of the most baffling bad movies ever made, and that's saying a lot. Especially coming from me, as I see a lot of these bad movies. I'm not trying to sound like an expert or anything, but just stating the facts.
While terrible, it's also one of the funnier bad movies out there. Everything about it just feels wrong and disjointed, in every possible way. From the overuse AND unnecessary use of dutch angles to John Travolta's laughingly-bad performance to Barry Pepper's grunting and groaning - it's all terrible, but it's all entertaining in a so bad that it's good kind of way.
It's no wonder that the crew from Rifftrax riffed on this one. It certainly deserves their kind of treatment. I'd say that I'd watch this again, if only for the entertainment value I get out of it, but I have to rate it accordingly.
A lot of work went into making it, especially the sets and the costumes, but you can't deny how terrible the finished product is. This is a legendary stinker, of the highest caliber.
