Review of Battle Royale (2000) by Nguyen Thuy H — 02 Jan 2013
(Review of the original 2D, and not 3D re-release) Battle Royale is the perfect action movie. It has suspense, romance, comedy, a great soundtrack, all with an unusual premise behind it: Japanese schoolkids having to fight each other to the death. The pacing is very well done, never a dull moment occurring.
Quentin Tarantino called it his favorite movie since he began directing. I can see why. It has the elements of a great Tarantino movie. However, nothing about it screams "TARANTINO!".
More importantly, the actual action and fighting within this movie is phenomenal, and knowing no-one had a stunt double, only makes it more amazing.
