Review of Battle of the Year (2013) by Orlando O — 18 Dec 2013
Battle of the Year is a dance film about the b boy team practicing hard to win the competition. It has its share of terrible dialogue, sleazy acting, and boring direction but what else could you ask for in a b boy dance film.
Jason (Josh Holloway) a washed out ex basketball coach and Dante (Laz Alonso) put a team together to compete in the Battle of the Year event.
The plot was typical and clichéd. It tried to be heart felt at moments with some characters trying to shine. It was easy to see coming and boring throughout the movie. The dialogue was horrendous, but sure the writers tried to be realistic to how the people in the movie would have actually talked.
Josh Holloway is a good actor but his talent was wasted in this tedious film. Laz Alonso, Josh Peck, and Caity Lotz did not give much of a performance. Chris Brown's performance is well to say terrible. It is Chris Brown, so he really does not have much of a performance.
Benson Lee film is nothing new as a dance film. It tried showing on how much b boying is still a pop culture. But it is still the same as any other typical mtv dance movies and you already know how it will play out.
