Review of Battle of the Sexes (2017) by Mellonhead — 22 Jan 2018
The acting and story are good, though the story is, of course, unoriginal. As far as execution, it was generally tight with a good mix of humor, from various characters (Steve Carell, etc, etc) and remained entertaining throughout.
Mainly, I felt the lead up to the showdown was not detailed enough and that the actual "battle", as well as the issues the movie regarded, could have definitely been expanded. The struggle is not as real as it could be - it never really feels like anyone is actually struggling, and is greatly predictable, even though it happened.
When a movie is about an event like this, I look for good execution and more of a look into what it was like behind the scenes and how it affected the characters. While this film does some of this, I feel like the focus wasn't strong or detailed enough.
