A grand explication of a grand story. A wonderful and well-chosen cast, excellent if necessarily brief "human story" moments, convincing battle scenes and a great sweep of narrative. The special section near the end â"of the decisive Big Dayâ" with its themed music by William Walton, gives a stomach-churning experience of air battle at its most disorienting.
