Review of Battle: Los Angeles (2011) by Troy A — 25 Feb 2012
I really hated this movie, well movie, I don't know if I can call it that, this is more of a video game without any remotes or controls, this is not a movie at all and if I call this as a movie, I have to say that this is one of the worst things I have ever watched. I mean, this is awful, it's tottally boring and for a long time, but yes, this movie left a smile on my face, when... it reached the credits, I really hated this movie, for people who like action, guns, Marines, aliens and stuff, there will be plenty of those things, but don't forget that this movie is pointless, whoever wrote the movie's script must be a complete idiot because this movie has no sort of development, it's really just action all the time without any pauses to watch other things instead of that. I didn't even like a bit of it, Aaron Eckhart was probably the only thing that made me continue to watch the movie, cause this is awful and I can't belive that it has a 5.9 on IMDb, that's crazy. I don't recommend this to anybody, only video game lovers, but those people will probably don't like it either because they will just want to find the controller. Awful movie.
Jonathan Liebesman directs this movie, I don't know him at all, but I do know that he directed The Killing Room (Good movie) but I don't think I'm going to let myself watch the next movies he directs, because he really directed an awful movie here and I'm still considering if want to watch the upcoming sequel of Clash of the Titans, wich is Wrath of the Titans, lets see. Aaron Eckhart takes the lead role, I was thought he was a good actor and he's just okay in here, we can't really comment he's perfomance I guess, I think we can only comment about how good he is pointing a gun or something, but yes he was okay in here, he had a fine character and an okay perfomance, but this is defenitly the worst movie that he as ever been on, Aaron is known from Meet Bill, The Dark Knight, Thank You for Smoking, No Reservations and some other movies. Michelle Rodrigez just shows again that she can only play those action girls that look like man covered in a girl's face, I mean, she's still anoying here and I think I will never call her a good actress, Michelle is known from Avatar, Machete, Blue Crush, S.W.A.T. and some other movies. Sow, besides these two actors (Besides this good actor, Aaron Eckhart), the cast is just a bit bad, they should probably choose some known and famous actors to play the other soldier roles because in the beginning of the movie, the battle starts, some soldiers die and I still don't know who did die. Despite the good perfomance by Aaron, the whole cast sort of sucks.
Michael Nantz (Aaron Eckhart) is a Marine Staff Sargeant that just after he got retired, gets back on duty with a group of soldiers to save Los Angeles from alien invaders that came to earth through meteors and have killed plenty of people all over the world, but there's still hope to save Los Angeles.(What I thought about the plot) Well, there's no plot here, whoever wrote it, only wrote how were going to be the action scenes, because this movie has no story besides the fact that aliens come invade the world, that's the only thing that seems like a part of a story cause the movie is just filled with action all the time, sow, this movie has basicly no plot and that's really bad. One of the worst 'things' ever written in the movie (video game) history.
Soundtrack, well, I do remember to hear something but nothing remarcable, just a few known kind of action movies themes that I found to be no big deal. The special effectes were surprisingly not so good as I thought, there were not lots of special effects here actually here and from the ones there were, they were no big deal, on a scale of 1 to 10 the CGI effects were a 6.9. The action, well, the movie is all about action and if it didn't had any action, this would might be the worst movie ever made, and at least they did create some fine action scenes, but remember, there were just some good action scenes and there's plenty of action scenes where we don't know wich character is fighting or dying, but well, there are some clever and a bit entertaining action scenes, but that doesn't mess with my rating of this movie, cause this movie or whathever it is, it's awful.
Besides all that, I am now going to tell you what I really thought about this movie. First of all, I once saw this movie's trailer on a theater and the trailer wasn't that diferent, I only saw some action things, nothing more. People in these days think that filming a video with a camera with some people participating and putting the entire video on theaters is a movie, then people are wrong, cause this ain't no movie, watching the world ending for almost two hours and seing soldiers fighting weird aliens for all that time is not a movie, I just hated it and I spend my time in one of the worst possible ways. This movie won't even be remembered by it's action scenes, this movie is bad in all of it's elements and I think no one should watch it because than you are missing almost two long hours of your day watching a horrible thing, a 5 second video of a rat singing a song would probably be better than this. This movie is no full meal, this movie is like the fork that it felt on the ground that you were going to use to eat the pizza that looked good, that's what I think that this movie is. The dialogue was just: Foxrot, N-2, Advance, Roger, leave bombs, over, bla, bla, bla. Overall, this is one of the worst movies ever made and it's awful in every second of it, it has a bad cast, an awful script or whathever that is, some just mediocre special effects, some six good action scenes and this movie is also tottally boring and still long. This is really one of the worst movies I have ever seen and I should be warned that I was about to watch this horrible thing. Awful.
Awful movie. Not recommended movie. Grade: D.
