Review of Battle: Los Angeles (2011) by Jason V — 27 Jun 2012
I never thought I would say this, but Independence Day is an Oscar worthy film compared to Battle: Los Angeles. Overlong at nearly two hours, B:LA is a relentless attack on the ears, not to mention the audience's patience level.
Here's an example of the logic which permeates the film: the aliens arrive on Earth by hurtling through the universe (they put the brakes on before they crash land). Yet the American military is convinced they don't have any vehicles capable of flying.
Now, let's think: why would you think a race that can TRAVEL THROUGH SPACE DIDN'T BRING ANY FLYING MACHINES WITH THEM? Kudos should go to the special effects artists for working their magic on the film, as well as to star Aaron Eckhart for somehow not busting a gut laughing through the entire story.
Anyone who doesn't see the "big reveal" in the third act coming a mile away is an idiot and has never seen a movie before in their lives. At least with ID4, the audience got to know the characters in little ways before the explosions started, thereby allowing them to be at least two-dimensional.
Here, I was shocked that there was more than one survivor when the credits rolled.
